#20: Flutterbum
In the past, the term ‘Flutterbum’ was used to describe a handsome man. Originating in informal English during the early to mid-20th century, ‘Flutterbum’ conveyed a sense of charm, attractiveness, and appeal. The term likely derived from the idea of someone who caused a ‘flutter’ or excitement among admirers, combined with ‘bum’, a colloquial term for a person’s posterior or physique.

And so, ‘Flutterbum’ captured the notion of a man whose presence elicited admiration and affection from those around him. It’s unfortunate that this term is no longer in use in modern English! If you ask us, it’s a delightful term.
