#19: Khaki Wacky
The term ‘Khaki Wacky’ was an old expression used to refer to women who were enamored with military men. Originating during wartime eras, particularly in the early to mid-20th century, ‘Khaki Wacky’ captured the allure and romanticism associated with military service. The term ‘khaki’ referenced the color of military uniforms, while ‘wacky’ conveyed a sense of infatuation or obsession.
This wasn’t a bad thing, though. Women who were labeled as ‘Khaki Wacky’ were often seen as devoted to their military partners, embracing the perceived heroism and patriotism associated with serving one’s country. Though less common in contemporary language, ‘Khaki Wacky’ reflects on a different period in American history.
