#14: Gibface
No one wants to be called a gibface. In the past, the term ‘gibface’ was a derogatory slang term used to describe someone who was considered unattractive or ugly. Originating in informal English during the early to mid-20th century, ‘gibface’ conveyed a sense of disdain or mockery towards an individual’s physical appearance.
The term ‘gib’ may derive from the Middle English word ‘gibbe’, meaning a protuberance or deformity, emphasizing the negative judgment associated with the person’s looks. While ‘gibface’ has largely fallen out of common usage, it serves as a reminder of the harsh and sometimes cruel language used to describe physical appearance in past eras.
