#26: Krating Daeng Gives You Wings
Red Bull is one of the most popular and well-known energy drinks on the market. However, most people don’t know that it is based on a Thai drink called Krating Daeng. “Krating Daeng” translates to “Red Bull,” so it’s basically the same thing for a different market. This vintage bottle of Krating Daeng is from 1992.
As you can see, the emblem of two Red Bulls colliding head-on is exactly the same as the Red Bull brand sold in the United States. Krating Daeng was introduced in Thailand in 1976. An Austrian businessman named Dietrich Mateschitz visited Thailand in 1982 and discovered that Krating Daeng cured his jet lag. He then set out to create his own version of the drink. Although the logos and the name are basically the same, Red Bull and Krating Daeng are owned by two different companies.
