#17: A Vintage Paystub
This set of vintage T-4 statements from Canada are in near-perfect condition. They give us a glimpse into the average Canadian household in 1959. The person who posted this snapshot shared that these T-4 statements belonged to their grandparents. One person made $2,344, while the other made $413.48.
Using a Canadian inflation calculator, their combined income equals about $30,000 today. It’s wild (and kind of depressing) to think that a $30,000-a-year income is next to impossible to survive on these days. These old pay stubs just go to show how much the cost of living has increased over the decades.
