#14: A Mickey Mouse Mask
Speaking of WWII-era artifacts, this photo shows another eerie and odd relic of the time. Your eyes do not deceive you. The man holding the poster in the center of the photo is none other than Walt Disney. The United States also produced child-sized gas masks during WWII, although they never had to be used.

In an attempt to make these gas masks “less scary,” they designed them to look like Mickey Mouse’s face. Um, we’d argue that making a full-face gas mask makes the whole ordeal even more terrifying. That mask looks like a horror film version of the famous Disney mouse. We guess they were just trying to make lemonade out of lemons.
