The Riches of the Salcombe Cannon Wreck
The unidentified vessel from the 1630s known as the Salcombe Cannon Wrecksite is famous for one of the largest discoveries of Moroccan gold, estimated to be worth $800 million.
Unearthed in 1994 due to seabed movements, the wreck yielded a treasure trove including coins and jewelry now housed in the British Museum. Moreover, 2004 dives revealed Bronze Age tools and ornaments, harking back to the 1200s.
