In-Flight Nibbles
In the waning years of the 1960s, Scandinavian Airlines broke new ground by introducing ‘smørrebrød’ to its Economy Class passengers. With a tongue-in-cheek marketing campaign, the airline assured its clientele, “Our flights don’t serve chewy, unappetizing meals shrouded in plastic wrap.”

The ingenious concept was warmly received by passengers, much to the chagrin of rival entities. Leading industry players such as American Airlines, Trans World Airlines, and Pan Am expressed their discontent, arguing that the inventive advertising approach accorded Scandinavian Airlines an undue edge.
