Boarding the Concorde aircraft was indeed a pricey affair, but it promised a journey steeped in luxury. Not just that, it boasted a travel speed that was double that of sound. To put it into perspective, this allowed a Londoner to touch down in New York in a mere three hours – a feat that would take a staggering seven hours on conventional aircrafts.
The commercial aviation industry took a significant hit after the tragic events of September 11, with air travel experiencing a worldwide decline. Additionally, the fatal incident involving Air France Flight 4590 and an insufficiency of maintenance support triggered the retiring of the aircraft in 2003. Interestingly, the only other aircraft that has achieved commercial supersonic flight was the Tupolev TU-144, manufactured in the Soviet Union.
