However, it wasn’t until a hundred years later when an American named James Plimpton unveiled his innovative “rocking” skate, that roller skating truly found its stride and grew into a widely embraced pastime.

The evolution of roller skates has seen a multitude of designs and innovations. Among them, the Swedish inventor, Edvard Petrini, introduced a unique version in the early 1900s. He conceived the Takypod, a roller skate model propelled by pedaling, which had the potential to rival the bicycle. Despite its innovative design, the Takypod never made it to mass production.
