#7: Slip ‘N Slide
The beloved backyard summer toy Slip ‘N Slide became popular in the 1960s. It consisted of a long sheet of plastic with water sprayed on it, creating a slippery surface for kids to slide on. However, some variations of it were discontinued due to safety concerns and injuries. In particular, the original hard plastic versions of the Slip ‘N Slide occasionally resulted in abrasions, neck and back injuries, and, in rare cases, broken bones.
These safety issues led to lawsuits, prompting manufacturers to discontinue certain models or redesign the product with softer materials and improved safety measures. Despite these challenges, Slip ‘N Slide remains an iconic summer activity for many.
