There’s a phrase that you see a lot in books: “His smile didn’t reach his eyes.” When I was younger, I didn’t know what that meant, but years of experience and interactions with other people taught me that it is possible for someone to smile with their face but not with their eyes.

I feel like that’s what this is referring to. True happiness actually manifests itself in how we behave and appear, and there’s only so much you can do to fake it. So if you want to glow, do what is necessary to make yourself happy.
