Making movies and TV shows with children characters has long left directors and producers with a big problem. Do you cast actual children and then deal with all of the laws and limitations that surround having children on set? Or do you cast adults and hope that people don’t notice how old they actually are?

If the children in question are teenagers, the sensible thing to do is to cast the youngest (and youngest-looking) adult actors you can find. But apparently that idea did not occur to the makers of Grease, who went ahead and cast actors who look absolutely middle-aged.
