My Dolphin Friend
This storyteller used to work as an elf for a seasonal mall Santa station. The station used to let kids write letters to Santa if they didn’t feel like sitting on his lap. Our storyteller decided to read a few letters when she was bored (whether or not that’s ethical is for another discussion), and she was not disappointed. Some of the requests were wild and funny.
One request in particular stands out in her memory. One letter from a six-year-old boy asked Santa for a pet dolphin, specifically one who wasn’t autistic. Our storyteller has no idea what prompted such a weirdly specific request, and honestly, we don’t either. We’re not sure this kid got what he wanted that year, but it was certainly a memorable request.
