The Aftermath
In a single wave of Dauntless attacks, three Japanese carriers met their demise, while the fourth, the Hiryū, clung to survival. From the Hiryū, Japanese aircraft were still being launched into the sky, maintaining a semblance of offensive capability. However, by the middle of the day, American fighter planes managed to locate and sink the Hiryū.
This decisive blow effectively sealed the fate of the Japanese fleet and marked a resounding American victory. The elimination of the Hiryū symbolized the turning point in the Battle of Midway and the broader Pacific War, ultimately altering the course of history.
