#19: Wistman’s Wood
Imagine a remote forest completely untouched by human hands. Can something like that even exist outside of a fairytale? It sure can. Welcome to Wistman’s Wood in Devon, England. This mysterious forest is hundreds of years old. It may be the remnants of an ancient forest that existed around 7000 BCE.
Wistman’s Wood is a protected area in England. It’s a unique natural site because large animals don’t live inside the forest. In fact, the only animals that call Wistman’s Wood home are a population of adders. The forest is also home to many rare and unique trees and species of lichen. Many legends exist about the woods, which makes sense because it looks like something straight out of a fairytale.
