#30: Don’t Trust Your Mechanic
It sounds pessimistic to say never to trust your mechanic, but it might be true. Sure, there are solid mechanics out there. However, unless you’ve been going to a mechanic for years, they probably don’t have your best interests in mind. A fellow mechanic revealed that auto shops usually exaggerate your car troubles to get you to spend more money.
This can be tricky to navigate, especially if someone doesn’t know all that much about cars. In addition, this anonymous mechanic revealed that most mechanics who work for auto shop chains will propose work that is easy and convenient for them, not necessarily what is best for your car. It’s best to keep this in mind when haggling with an auto shop.
