#37: Sherbet Fountain Legacy
The Sherbet Fountain, crafted by Barratt’s, now known as Tangerine Confectionary Company, is a cherished British confection. Originally conceptualized by Henry Edward Brunt, it was sold to Barratt’s, which then introduced it under its brand. This candy duo features a fizzy, powdered sherbet alongside a distinct licorice stick, offering a unique blend of flavors.
Diving into this classic treat was an adventure in itself, requiring one to bite open the top of its packaging to transform it into a makeshift straw. As the sherbet was indulged through this straw, it created an exciting fizz and dissolved upon contact with the tongue. However, modern iterations have adapted with a solid licorice stick for dipping, now marketed as “Sherbet with a licorice dip,” simplifying the experience while retaining the enjoyment.
