#33: Beechies Gum
Originally embarked on producing jarred products, Beech-Nut expanded its horizons by stepping into the confectionary world with Beechies gum in 1936. This candy-coated gum, reminiscent of Chiclets, initially offered a variety of flavors. Over time, its flavor selections have simplified to primarily spearmint and peppermint, maintaining its distinctive hard, rectangular shape.
Although Beechies gum may not be Beech-Nut’s flagship product, its nostalgic charm has captured the attention of candy enthusiasts and antiquated merchants. Despite this, Beech-Nut’s claim to fame rests on its groundbreaking vacuum-sealed gasket technology. This innovation marked a pivotal moment in the cannery industry, reshaping preservation methods and setting a new standard for canning.
