#27: Median Lifespans in Medieval Times
Contrary to common misconceptions, individuals living in the Middle Ages did not typically have short lifespans. While it’s true that overall life expectancy has increased over time, it’s inaccurate to believe that people in medieval times rarely lived beyond their 30s or 40s.
Despite high infant mortality rates, which skewed statistical averages, many adults in medieval societies reached their 50s, 60s, and even older ages. Factors such as improved healthcare, sanitation, and nutrition contributed to longer lifespans for those who survived childhood and early adulthood.
