#16: The Easy-Bake Oven
Introduced in the 1960s, the Easy-Bake Oven was a beloved toy that allowed children to bake small treats with the help of a light bulb. It’s been around for a long time, but its discontinuation in 2007 was mainly driven by concerns over safety and changing regulations. The traditional Easy-Bake Oven used a 100-watt incandescent light bulb as a heating element, which posed burn and fire hazards.
As energy-efficient LED and CFL bulbs became more common, the classic design of the toy was rendered incompatible with these new light sources. As the years passed, there were ongoing concerns about children potentially coming into contact with the oven’s hot surfaces. As a result, the classic Easy-Bake Oven was phased out and replaced with a new version that used a heating element rather than a light bulb, meeting modern safety standards while keeping the spirit of the beloved toy alive.
