#42: Spider
Picture this: a young girl is sitting on her bed, frozen in fear, as she stares at a spider on her wall. She calls out for her dad, who comes rushing in to save the day. But instead of swooping in with a rolled-up newspaper, he delivers the classic dad line: “The spider is probably more afraid of you than you are of him.” Cue the eye roll. Sure, because that totally makes us feel better about the eight-legged monster in our room.
But as ridiculous as his comment may seem, there might be some truth to it. After all, spiders don’t exactly have a reputation for being brave and bold. Maybe that little arachnid is just as scared of us as we are of it. But for the girl on the bed, that’s not much comfort. Time to bring in the big guns: a vacuum cleaner and a brave sibling.
