#6: College Football is Born
The origins of American college football as we know it today can be traced back to one fateful date: November 6, 1869. This date marks the very first intercollegiate football game ever played. The game was between Princeton and Rutgers. It looked much different than our games today because it followed the London Football Association’s rules from 1863.
As a result, the game looked way more like soccer than football. Many consider this Princeton vs. Rutgers game to simultaneously be the first American soccer and American gridiron football game at the collegiate level. So, all you Princeton Tigers and Rutgers Scarlet Knights fans out there can whip this fun fact out next time you want to brag about your team.
